The Sentry Management office in Bluffton, SC is pleased to announce a partnership with Osprey Village Inc. (OVI), a South Carolina based non-profit corporation that provides training, advocacy, and other resources to empower adults with developmental disabilities as a part of the Sentry SMILES program.

Sentry staff have volunteered their time and donate items to the Osprey Village Thrift store. Proceeds from the store go directly towards building the new Osprey Village community.

Headquartered in Hilton Head Island, Osprey Village has been working since its incorporation in 2008 to increase local options available to this growing population of adults by promoting a person-centered service model. In this model, services and other opportunities are made available to the individual in the place and living arrangement of his or her choice.

The main objectives of the Osprey Village community are independent living (with support), to serve more people, to lower the cost of care, to provide jobs and job training, offer individualized care, and reduce family stress.

Osprey Village was deeded 63.12 acres of land in the Okatie area and equates to approximately 25 acres of buildable land, and the rights to develop up to 140 residential units. The community will provide safety, security, and a level of oversight and assistance that will help its residents achieve a level of independence.

OVI Executive Director, Jerome Manuel is optimistic about the new relationship with Sentry Management and the prospect of the two organizations cooperating in pursuit of a common community goal.

“We are excited about working with an established, national organization and an experienced authority on public-private partnerships. We see this as an asset to the future success of people with developmental disabilities,” Manuel said.

The Sentry SMILES program encourages employees to contribute to local charities within their communities. Over 100 local charities and causes are supported by the employees of Sentry offices in 16 states.
