The Sentry Sarasota office recently hosted a free HOA Board Certification Class for local HOA board members. Over 30 newly elected board members attended the class and received their board certification.

In recent years, the Florida Legislature passed legislation that requires board members of HOAs and Condos to take a board certification class within the first 90 days of being elected to the Board of Directors or to provide a written certification election form.

Sentry provides board members the opportunity to receive their certification from legal experts in the industry. These professionals better prepare board members to serve their communities by making sure they’re provided with all of the information needed.

“We had an extremely high amount of participation in this board certification class, which lead us to add an additional session for the day. In total, we ended up having two separate, 2-hour sessions because of the amount of interest in the class,” Nicole Bennesten, Division Manager, Sarasota Division said.

Sentry Management offices across the state of Florida offer these complimentary certification classes, are taught by industry professionals, in order to satisfy this requirement of the state for board members.

“I believe that everyone attending left more informed about what their roles are as board association members,” she explains.

Certification classes cover a variety of topics from fiduciary responsibilities to state-specific legislation. Board members leave with all the pertinent information needed in order to successfully begin serving their communities.

Jonathan Ellis an attorney from the local firm, Shumaker, Loop & Kendrick, LLP was the guest speaker for both of the certification classes.
